$6.9 million available for safety training

IMGXYZ360IMGZYXThe Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced in the June 10th Federal Register that $6.9 million is available for safety training grants.

The grants, intended for programs that train workers and employers in safety and health hazards, are available in 24 categories.

Specifically, six categories in construction are available: 1) crane safety, 2) fall protection, 3) “Focus Four” hazards (falls, electrocution, struck-by and caught-in-between), 4) health hazards in construction, 5) safety hazards related to mechanized, over-the-road and heavy construction equipment, and 6) and work zone safety.

Applicants must propose a plan for both developing and conducting the training and must conduct follow-up evaluations with trainees to determine the program’s effect.

Grant applications must be submitted electronically through the www.GRANTS.gov system by July 24, 2009.
