TAUC CEO Steve Lindauer attended the “Out Educate, Out Build” celebration on the National Mall on June 6. The event, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, recognized the 100th anniversary of registered apprenticeships in the U.S. and highlighted the state-of-the-art worker training provided by joint labor-management apprenticeship programs.
Several affiliated unions of the Building and Construction Trades Department (BCTD) were on hand with a display of their mobile training units. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis spoke, along with BCTD President Mark Ayers.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: joint apprenticeships are one of this country’s best kept secrets,” Solis told the audience. “In training centers across the country, labor and industry leaders are matching skills so that people who get trained can have a clear and direct pathway to meaningful careers in the 21st century…This is a labor-management partnership that’s truly investing in the American people, and it’s one that works!”
