The awards were created over three decades ago to recognize and commend the exceptional efforts made by our members to prevent the occurrence of serious injury — or worse — on the jobsite. They are named in honor of a long-serving member of TAUC's predecessor organization, the National Erectors Association. Thomas J. Reynolds was a veteran safety professional, and in 1986 became the first NEA member to serve on OSHA's prestigious Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health.
This year's awards recognize work performed in 2018. They will be presented in four different categories:
The winners in each category are determined by achieving a zero Days Away, Restricted or Transferred (or DART) Rate in each category. All winners achieved a DART Frequency of zero. Participants who have achieved a DART Rate of 25% or more below the most recent available BLS National Average receive a Certificate of Achievement to acknowledge their accomplishments.
This year, we had 112 winners for the Thomas J. Reynolds Safety Awards. These winners amassed more than 116 million work hours with 181 DART Cases in 2018. The average DART Rate of these TAUC members was an astounding 0.311 for 2018, well under the BLS National Average of 1.8.
