June is National Safety Month, and the week of June 22 – 28 is dedicated to reducing distracted driving.
Cell phones, texting, putting on makeup, reading, eating, turning around to locate something in the back seat, and changing the radio are activities capable of causing moments of distraction.
The National Safety Council has targeted cell phone users on the road with a “Death by Cell Phone” billboard advertisement launched in 67 markets nationwide. The billboards feature individuals who were tragically killed in car crashes caused by drivers using cell phones.
Additionally, the National Safety Council Channel on YouTube features a “Death by Cell Phone” video. Check it out, and see if you can incorporate it into your fleet safety training program.
Previous weeks highlighted other safety issues:
June 1-7: Teen Driving
June 8-14: Fall Prevention
June 15-21: Overexertion
