TAUC Statement on Creation of the Congressional Building Trades Caucus

March 11 2016

ARLINGTON, VA – The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC) CEO Steve Lindauer issued the following statement regarding the recent creation of the Congressional Building Trades Caucus by Rep. Donald Norcross (D-NJ) and Rep. David McKinley (R-WV):

“TAUC congratulates Congressmen Norcross and McKinley on the creation of the Congressional Building Trades Caucus. It is a much-needed and long-overdue development. The union construction and maintenance industry faces many challenges, but few are as important as attracting a new generation of skilled workers. We are gratified that the Caucus has pledged to educate members of Congress on the importance of apprenticeships and other initiatives to ensure the United States maintains a world-class construction workforce for decades to come.

“The bipartisan nature of the Caucus is also extremely important. The only way we will achieve any progress is by working together. The union construction and maintenance industry is founded on the philosophy of tripartite cooperation. We encourage the Caucus to use the same cooperative strategy – combined with a commitment to open and honest communication – to forge winning legislative solutions that will benefit U.S. craft workers.

“With the leadership of strong, knowledgeable advocates like Congressmen Norcross and McKinley – both of whom have extensive experience in the construction and energy industries – TAUC is confident the Congressional Building Trades Caucus will make a difference, and our organization stands ready to assist its efforts in ensuring the construction worker’s voice is heard on Capitol Hill.”
