Construction mass layoffs decline in June

Mass layoffs in the construction sector — defined as 50 or more workers from a single employer — declined in June, according to the most recent numbers available from the government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.


There were 84 mass construction layoffs in June, down from 137 in May and 121 in June 2010. As a result, initial claimants for unemployment insurance also fell, from 9,875 in May to 6,847 in June.
