Crane safety Webinar emphasized attention to detail, procedures

More than 60 registrants attended TAUC’s Nov. 20 Webinar, “Lift your bottom line… lower the boom on crane accidents!,” reflecting the union construction industry’s commitment to improving crane safety.

John Hartwell, crane instructor for the Operating Engineers Local 324, and Scott Houghteling, corporate safety director for Midwest Steel, Inc., led the online group through common causes of accidental injury and death by cranes, as well as basic ways to prevent the incidents. Attention to detail and discipline in completing procedures — as opposed to cutting corners — were both emphasized.
