Department of Labor phases out Drug-Free Workplace Alliance

February 26 2010
Safety and Health

The Drug-Free Workplace Alliance was a big part of helping to increase awareness of the benefits of drug-free workplaces throughout the construction industry. The collaboration among the Alliance’s members helped to promote safe and healthy construction workplaces through the prevention of worker alcohol and drug abuse. One of the Alliance’s most notable initiatives was the establishment of the Drug-Free Work Week, held each October.

TAUC President Robert Santillo added “Although we are disappointed this program is ending, we would like to extend our gratitude to the Department’s staff for their continued efforts to raise the level of substance abuse awareness and understanding for our membership.”  Even though this specific Memorandum will be concluding, several existing Alliance members, including TAUC, are working on ways to continue the Alliance’s Drug-Free Workplace efforts. More information will follow.
