Richard Calvin Higgins, a construction executive for 50 years and a former board member of TAUC’s predecessor organization, The National Erectors Association, passed away Dec. 30, 2010 at the age of 89.
Mr. Higgins joined the family business, Higgins Erectors and Haulers in upstate New York, when he was just 16. He left to attend the University of Michigan and then serve as a lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps in World War II. He returned to the family business and was instrumental in its expansion; during his tenure the company had offices in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Rochester and Syracuse.
Mr. Higgins is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Ruth Elizabeth Smith; and two sons, Richard C. Jr. and Robert W.
The TAUC Board of Directors and all of our members extend their deepest sympathies to the Higgins family.
