Robert Georgine, former president of the AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department, passed away on March 29 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland, due to complications from a stroke.
Mr. Georgine was born in Chicago and started his union career as a woodworker. He served in a variety of local and national union posts before being elected secretary-treasurer of the BCTD in 1971. In 1974 he was elected president of the BCTD, and in 1985 became the first constitutional department head to serve on the AFL-CIO executive council. He later served as president, chairman and chief executive of the Union Labor Life Insurance Company (ULLICO).
The TAUC Board of Directors and all of our members extend their deepest sympathies to the Georgine family.
