Ironworkers, OSHA forge new training partnership

March 31 2010

The Ironworkers International Union and OSHA have teamed up to form a new “National Training Partnership” to revise steel erection training materials and provide specialized training to OSHA compliance officers.

Under the new partnership, the industry-designed training materials will undergo a series of mainly minor revisions, and OSHA inspectors will be trained on a series of eight training modules designed by the Ironworkers National Training Fund and IMPACT. OSHA Deputy Administrator Jordan Barab said, “Our Directorate of Construction Staff have reviewed the Ironworkers steel erection training course and find the format of using DVD’s, PowerPoint presentations, hands-on activities, and workbooks with examinations to be excellent for training.”

“It is important for us to work together to achieve consistent interpretation and enforcement of the OSHA Subpart R – Steel Erection standards,” added IMPACT Management Co-Chair William Brown.
