State of Washington mulling new crane safety rule

March 19 2009

Washington state officials are planning to adopt a new crane safety rule, according to a BNA report on March 19.

The report said the Washington state rule would require crane certification, as well as operator certification, and would require the operator to have 2,000 hours of experience before receiving certification.

Under the plan, operators would need to pass a written test administered by either the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators, the Crane Institute of American Certification, the National Construction Certification Education and Research or the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 12 in San Diego, according to the BNA report.

The proposed Washington state rule is expected to become effective on Jan. 1, 2010.
