The Association of Union Constructors
The Association of Union Constructors evolved from the National Erectors Association, which was founded in 1969 by the leading union steel erectors in the construction industry. Over the years, membership grew to include all types of union contractors, and, consequently, the name and structure of the association was changed to The Association of Union Constructors in 2007. The new association reflects the changing face of the construction industry and more accurately reflects the growing diversity of TAUC members.
Our national headquarters is located in Arlington, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from downtown Washington, D.C.

Vertical Wins Fourth Annual IGI Startup Battle, Claims $20,000 Prize

TAUC is pleased to announce that Vertical is the winner of the 2021 Industrial Grade Innovation Startup Battle! But unlike past winners, the construction tech firm had a rather unconventional path to victory and the $20,000 grand prize, courtesy of IGI sponsors Barton Malow and NMAPC.
Vertical specializes in streamlining and simplifying construction draw management — or in their own words, "taking the chaos out of" the process of collecting and completing monthly paperwork like invoices, lien waivers and compliance documentation so everyone gets paid faster.
Vertical was one of eight firms invited to compete in the fourth annual Startup Battle, a fun, fast-paced cross between Shark Tank and a high-stakes sports tournament. Construction tech start-ups pitch their ideas to a panel of venture capitalists as well as attendees of TAUC's Industrial Grade Innovation Conference & Expo (IGI). Usually, the Startup Battle takes place in several rounds over the course of the conference. But this year, due to COVID-related concerns, IGI ended a day early, before a winner could be chosen. The contestants — not to mention TAUC — had to quickly pivot and come up with a way to finish the tournament — in other words, innovate on the fly!
