Insulators Union Announces Key Leadership Changes

New General President Elected Upon Retirement of James Grogan

The International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers today announced that General President James A. Grogan, Jr. has retired after a 59-year career with the International Union. James P. "Bud" McCourt has been elected General President after serving as the Union's General Secretary-Treasurer for 14 years.

Grogan has held the position of General President of the HFIAW since Sept. 1, 2001 and was re-elected during the General Conventions of 2007 and 2012. Under his management, the Union made significant strides in the areas of membership recruitment and development, specialized training, and medical research, the latter highlighted by the establishment of the Insulators' Tissue Bank to help find a cure for mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.

McCourt was officially sworn in as General President the morning of Aug. 3, bringing to the office nearly 40 years of experience in the HFIAW. Prior to his tenure as Secretary-Treasurer, McCourt served with dedication and distinction as Vice President of the New York-New England States Conference and Business Manager of Local 6 in Boston.

Since 2001, McCourt has worked closely with Grogan on key initiatives to help a century-old union that represents more than 30,000 craftsmen across the United States and Canada adapt to an increasingly in-demand industry. Overall employment of mechanical insulation workers is projected to grow 38 percent from 2012 to 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Replacing McCourt as Secretary-Treasurer is Gregory T. Revard, the Union's Central States Conference Vice President, who was also sworn in on Aug. 3. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Revard is a 33-year member of the HFIAW and previously served as the International's Director of Organizing and Business Manager of Local 47 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The HFIAW is deeply grateful to James Grogan and his career of service and is confident that the Union will continue to be in the most capable hands under the new leadership of McCourt and Revard.
